I paint bark because I am drawn to the shape, texture and dimensionality of the pieces I find and select on early morning walks. I find what is generally regarded as detritus arrestingly beautiful. Instead of viewing nature as something to be conquered in order to inhabit the world, it becomes my partner in art making. This work is intended to ignite curiosity about the beauty in our natural environment that goes unnoticed, unappreciated or abused and to extend a sense of permanence to the temporary while highlighting the fraying relationship between humans and our natural world.
